General and safety information

Fitting a winch will facilitate the entry of a passenger in a wheelchair into the vehicle.

This anchorage winch enables you to tow a total weight up to 250 kg on a ramp at a maximum angle of 15 degrees, as well as to secure a wheelchair weighing up to 190 kg. This system complies with the ISO 10542 : 2012 standard concerning the resistance of restraint systems for the transportation of people in wheelchairs. It is only intended for transporting a forward-facing wheelchair and for securing only one wheelchair and its occupant.

The locking and unlocking button on the winch reels is similar to the locking button of electric reels. It operates in exactly the same way Using front (electric) reels.

The winch winding system only operates if the reels are locked (button raised).

warning

The winding system is very powerful, please be cautious when using it.

warning

Make sure that nothing (body parts, clothes, etc.) may be caught or entangled in the straps, wheelchair or end fittings.

warning

Do not let go of the straps to wind them up. Risk of damage to the winch or even injury. Guide them as they wind to the base or to the magnets.

warning

When raising or lowering the wheelchair using the winch, make sure that nothing is placed on it (bags, etc.) which may unbalance it and tilt it.

This winch is accompanied by a remote control stored in the glove box, on which a small red light indicates the operation of the winding system (press the IN or OUT buttons). If this light stays on when the system is no longer operating, this indicates a low battery level and the need to replace the remote control batteries Unloading.

Put on standby

The system switches to standby following approximately five minutes of inaction after the webbing has been unlocked (button depressed) in order to preserve the vehicle battery and to prevent the winch components from overheating. In this case, the reels locking button will remain depressed and lit. To exit standby mode, simply press the button again.

warning

Connectors may protrude from the unit: please be cautious when around it.

Emergency system

In the event of an emergency or an electrical fault, raise the "Manual Override" lever 1 "Manual Override" to unlock the straps. To move the wheelchair backwards, it may be necessary to first push the wheelchair slightly forwards to loosen the webbing. DO NOT FORCE THE LEVER. Remember to lower the lever to lock the straps again in order to ensure safe loading and transportation.

warning

Ensure that the manual unlocking handle is in the folded position before loading, unloading or transporting the wheelchair.

warning

Never lift this handle while the retracting system is in operation (the straps are no longer locked). Risk of the wheelchair suddenly moving backwards.

Manual use

The winch can also be used manually, for example if the remote control is faulty.

It will operate in the same way as electric reels Using front (electric) reels.

The procedure for loading into the vehicle remains the same, the only difference being that the wheelchair will be pushed into the vehicle by the attendant instead of being towed by the winch.

To lower it, it will be necessary to unlock the reels (lift the lever 1) before taking the wheelchair out of the vehicle.

Loading

1.
Position the wheelchair at the bottom of the ramp, then unlock the reels by pressing the button located on the rear right-hand trim.
2.
Unwind the two straps and attach them to the frame of the wheelchair as specified by the wheelchair manufacturer, making sure that they do not twist.
warning

The winch only operates if the vehicle's handbrake is applied and the engine is switched off.

3.
Lock the reels by pressing the button again.
4.
Take the winch remote control from the glove box, switch it on and press and hold the IN button to pull the wheelchair into the vehicle.
warning

Do not use the OUT button on the remote control to unwind the straps. There is a risk of sudden winding which may cause injury and may cause damage to the system.

5.
Once the wheelchair is in the vehicle, apply the wheelchair brakes and position the rear reels as well as the shoulder belt Using the rear reelsUsing the shoulder belt.
6.
After use, switch off the remote control to avoid wearing out the batteries and store it in the glove box.
warning

Always guide the wheelchair when loading it using the winch.

Unloading

1.
Unfasten the rear reels as well as the shoulder belt Using the rear reels, Using the shoulder belt.
2.
Take the winch remote control from the glove box, switch it on and press and hold the OUT button to unload the wheelchair. The straps will first wind up and slightly pull the wheelchair forwards to loosen the straps, thus enabling the wheelchair to be unloaded.
warning

Always guide the wheelchair when unloading it using the winch.

3.
Once the wheelchair is at the bottom of the ramp, unlock the reels by pressing the button on the rear right-hand trim before removing the end fittings in order to prevent sudden winding of the straps.
4.
Detach the straps from the wheelchair frame and guide it as it winds to the base of the winch or until the end fittings are resting on the magnets Using front (electric) reels.
5.
After use, switch off the remote control to avoid wearing out the batteries and store it in the glove box.

Instructions for maintenance

1.
Frequently inspect the straps and end fittings. If there are signs of wear or damage, replace any worn or damaged items immediately.
2.
Webbing can be cleaned using soapy water applied with a soft sponge or cloth. Mild disinfectants may be used but do not use products containing bleach. Rinse with water and leave it to dry. Do not immerse end fittings.
3.
Protect the straps from oil, polish and other chemicals.
4.
Do not allow straps to come into contact with sharp edges or corners.
5.
If the vehicle is involved in an accident with the restraints in use they must be replaced immediately.
6.
The batteries of the remote control (2 x AAA) will have to be periodically replaced as low batteries will cause the system to cut out intermittently during use and this will be indicated by the red light remaining illuminated after use (replace remote batteries by removing the back of the unit which is held in place by five screws).
7.
The winch system is fuse protected Fuses specific to the conversion.
