To avoid all risk of sparks :

  • Ensure that any power consumers (courtesy lights, etc.) are switched off before disconnecting or reconnecting a battery ;
  • when charging, stop the charger before connecting or disconnecting the battery ;
  • do not place metal objects on the battery as this could create a short circuit between the terminals ;
  • always wait at least five minutes after the engine has been switched off before disconnecting a battery ;
  • make sure that you reconnect the battery terminals after refitting.
warning

Before carrying out any action in the engine compartment, you must switch off the ignition. Vehicle with card

Connecting a battery charger

The battery charger must be compatible with a battery with nominal voltage of 12 volts.

Do not disconnect the battery when the engine is running. Follow the instructions given by the manufacturer of the battery charger you are using.

warning

Special procedures may be required to charge some batteries. Contact your approved dealer.

Avoid all risk of sparks which may cause an immediate explosion, and charge the battery in a well ventilated area.

Risk of serious injury.

warning

Handle the battery with care as it contains sulphuric acid, which must not come into contact with eyes or skin. If it does, wash the affected area with plenty of cold water. If necessary, consult a doctor.

Keep naked flames, red hot objects and sparks away from the battery components as there is a risk of explosion.

Please note when working close to the engine that it may be hot. In addition, the engine cooling fan may start at any moment. The 2_ALL_290_1_pictogramme.png warning light in the engine compartment reminds you of this.

Risk of injury.

Starting the vehicle using the battery from another vehicle

R

If you have to use the battery from another vehicle to start, obtain suitable jump leads (with a large cross section) from an approved dealer or, if you already have jump leads, ensure that they are in perfect condition.

The two batteries must have an identical nominal voltage : 12 volts. The battery supplying the current should have a capacity (amp-hours, Ah) which is at least the same as that of the discharged battery.

Ensure that there is no risk of contact between the two vehicles (risk of short circuiting when the positive terminals are connected) and that the discharged battery is properly connected. Switch off your vehicle ignition.

Depending on the vehicle, unclip the battery cover and raise the cover A of the terminal1 (+).

Connect the positive cable B to the terminal 1 (+) then to the terminal4 (+) of the battery supplying the current.

Connect the negative cable C to the terminal 3 () of the battery supplying the current and then to the terminal 2 () of the discharged battery.

Start the engine of the vehicle supplying the current and run it at an intermediate engine speed.

warning

Check that there is no contact between leads B and C and that the positive lead B is not touching any metal parts on the vehicle supplying the current.

Risk of injury and/or damage to the vehicle.

If your vehicle’s engine does not start immediately, switch off the ignition and wait a few seconds before repeating the operation.

With the engine running, disconnect the cables B and C in reverse order (2- 3 - 4 -1).

Starting the vehicle using the battery from another vehicle for E-Tech full hybrid version

If the 12V battery charge level is too low, it is possible to use the battery of another vehicle to re-activate and operate the hybrid system. Starting, stopping the engine

As the battery cannot be directly accessed, it is necessary to use the remote terminals located in the engine compartment.

Obtain suitable leads (large cross-section) from an approved dealer. If you already have jump leads, ensure that they are in good condition.

The two batteries must have an identical nominal voltage : “12 V”.

Start the engine of the vehicle supplying the current and run it at a moderate speed.

tip

Do not use your hybrid vehicle to restart a “12 V” battery in another vehicle. The electrical power in the 12V battery of a hybrid vehicle is not sufficient for this operation.

Risk of damage to the vehicle.

warning

Please note when working close to the engine that it may be hot. The engine cooling fan may also start at any moment. The 2_ALL_290_1_pictogramme.png label in the engine compartment reminds you of this.

Risk of injury.

warning

Do not carry out any work under the bonnet while the vehicle is charging or while the ignition is switched on. Starting, stopping the engine

Remote terminals

Use the terminal 1 (+) and the terminal2 () in the engine compartment.

warning

It is forbidden to disconnect the positive cable in the engine compartment.

Risk of the engine starting inadvertently.

Risk of burns by projection of sparks.

Note : open the cover 3 of the terminal1 (+) by pressing the button 4 as indicated by the arrow.

warning

Check that there is no contact between leads A and B and that the positive lead A is not touching any metal parts on the vehicle supplying the current.

Risk of injury and/or damage to the vehicle.

Attach the positive cable A to the terminal 1 (+), then to the terminal5 (+) of the battery supplying the current.

Connect the negative cable B to the terminal 6 () of the battery supplying the current and then to the terminal 2 ().

Press the brake pedal and the Start button or, depending on the vehicle, turn on the ignition key. As soon as the ignition is switched on, disconnect the A and B cables in the reverse order (2 - 6 - 5 - 1) .

After each operation of the cover 3, check the terminal block cover 8 on its tab 7.
