Positioning
Four inertia reels (two at the front and two at the rear) are required to anchor a wheelchair.
At the front, the space between the inertia reels should be at least 30 centimetres and approximately 25° on each side of the seat as shown in Figure A. The angle of the belts should be between 40 and 60°.
At the rear, the space between the inertia reels should be at least 30 centimetres and approximately 5 to 10° on each side of the seat as shown in Figure B. The angle of the belts should be between 30 and 45°.
Note: the installation of the straps must be symmetrical with respect to the wheelchair.
Installation
For each of the four inertia reels, lift the tab 1 and secure the reel to the rail, then release the tab to secure the reel.

Fitting the shoulder belt
Safety instructions
- Install a wheelchair facing forwards only.
- Wheelchairs must be approved for transportation (compliant with the ISO 7176-19 standard).
- Using a passenger seat belt other than the one specified for attaching a wheelchair that is occupied by a person may hinder its effectiveness.
- The wheelchair/person attachment system must only be used with a wheelchair that is facing towards the front of the vehicle.
- The wheelchair/person attachment system components, including the anchorages, must be replaced if they were in use during an impact.
- The wheelchair/person attachment system can be used for only one wheelchair and one person.
- Any additional wheelchair equipment is to be attached to the wheelchair or removed from the wheelchair and attached in the vehicle during transportation, so that it does not move freely and not cause any damage to the occupants of the vehicle in the event of an impact.
- The parts attached to the wheelchair in front of the occupant, other than the foot rests, are to be removed as much as possible and attached during transportation in order to reduce the risk of injury to the person in the wheelchair and other people in the vehicle.
- A 3-point shoulder belt must be used to reduce the risk of impact to the head and chest of the occupant with vehicle components.
- The extent to which the head and the chest moves will depend on the locations of the torso belt attachment points and may increase the distance between the anchorage point above and behind the shoulders.
- The seat belt pelvic strap must be used in the lower position in front of the pelvis to support the person's skeleton, and the junction between the pelvic strap and the shoulder must be positioned near the passenger's hip.
- The angle of the pelvic strap must be in an area between 45° to 75° horizontally or 30° to 45° horizontally, as shown in the diagram:
- A.
Preferred area.
- B.
Optional area.
- The seat belts must not be separated from the body by the armrests or the wheels of the wheelchair.
- The occupant's seat belts must be adjusted as firmly as possible while remaining comfortable.
- The upper torso restraints must be adjusted above the shoulders.
- The upper torso anchorage points or the strap guide are adjustable in height and must be placed at or above the shoulders of the wheelchair user in order not to apply top-down weight on their spine in the event of an impact.
- No straps should be used if twisted.
Fitting a shoulder belt
Lift the inertia reel unit tab 1 and attach it to the ceiling rail near the location of the wheelchair.
Lift the inertia reel tab 4 and attach it to the ground rail so that the belt 3 is positioned vertically.
Fitting the lap belt
Connect the catches of the lap belt to the buckles 5 of the inertia reels on each side of the passenger.
Once the wheelchair is anchored, attach the seat belt 2 to the buckle 6.
Locking the seat belt
Connect the catch and the buckle 7 then adjust the tightness using the strap 8.
Fitting an oxygen cylinder
(depending on the vehicle)
The oxygen cylinder bracket 9 is attached to one of the rails 11 on the floor. Position the bracket in one of the rails and screw the knob 10 in to secure it.
