Towing: breakdown

The steering wheel must not be locked; the ignition key must be in "M" position (on) in order to unlock the steering column. Switch on the hazard warning lights. At night the vehicle must have its lights on.
Remove any trailer.
You must observe the towing regulations which apply in the country in which you are driving: do not exceed the towing weight for your vehicle.
Contact an approved Dealer.
WARNING
Do not remove the key from the ignition when the vehicle is being towed.
WARNING
When the engine is stopped, steering and braking assistance are no longer provided.

Towing a vehicle fitted with an automatic gearbox

Transport the vehicle on a trailer or tow it with the front wheels off the ground.
WARNING
  • Use a rigid tow bar. If a rope or cable is used (where the law allows this), the vehicle being towed must be able to brake.
  • a vehicle must not be towed if it is not fit to be driven.
  • avoid accelerating or braking suddenly when towing, as this may result in damage being caused to the vehicle.
  • In any case, it is advisable not to exceed 16 mph (25 km/h).

Front towing point

Only use at the front:
  • the towing ring 5 (located in the tool kit).
These towing points may only be used for towing: never use them for lifting the vehicle directly or indirectly.
Access to the towing ring 5: Move the driver's seat forward and tilt the backrest to remove it from the tool kit TOOLS.
Access to the front towing point 6: Push the left side of cover 7 to unclip it.
Screw in the towing ring 5 fully: first by hand as far as possible, then lock using the wheelbrace 8.
Only use the towing ring 5 stored with the tools TOOLS.
WARNING
Ensure that the towing ring is bolted correctly.
Risk of losing the towed object.
WARNING
When storing the tools, ensure that they are correctly placed in their original positions in the toolbox and store the toolbox under the driver’s seat. Do not leave the tools unsecured inside the vehicle as they may be projected during braking.

Rear towing point

Use exclusively in the rear:
  • the towing ring 1 (located in the tool kit TOOLS);
  • the towing ring 2 if the vehicle is equipped with a running board.
These towing points may only be used for pulling the vehicle, never for lifting it either directly or indirectly.
Access to the towing ring 1: Move the driver's seat forward and tilt the backrest to remove it from the tool kit TOOLS.
Access to the rear towing point 3: Unclip the cover 4 inserting a flat-blade screwdriver or similar into the groove 4.
Tighten the towing ring 1 fully: first by hand as possible, then lock using the wheelbrace TOOLS.
Only use the towing ring 1 stored with the tools TOOLS.
These towing points may only be used for pulling the vehicle and never for lifting it either directly or indirectly.
