Starting the engine

The card must be in the reader zone 2.

Starting the engine:

  • On vehicles equipped with an automatic gearbox, move the selector lever to position P or N, press the brake pedal and press the button 1;

Special instructions

  • If one of the starting conditions is not fulfilled, the "Press Brake + START" or "Select Gearbox Position "P"" message will be displayed on the instrument panel;
  • In some cases, it may be necessary to move the steering wheel when pressing the start button 1 to help unlock the steering column; the "Turn Steering Wheel + START" message informs you of this.
tip

During a system update via the multimedia system, it will not be possible to start the vehicle.

Wait for the update to complete before starting the vehicle.

In this case, the card should not be located in the luggage compartment, to prevent the risk of loss.

Driver's responsibility when parking or stopping the vehicle

Never leave an animal, child or adult who is not self-sufficient alone in your vehicle, even for a short time.

They may pose a risk to themselves or to others by starting the engine, activating equipment such as the electric windows or locking the doors.

Also, in hot and/or sunny weather, please remember that the temperature inside the passenger compartment increases very quickly.

Accessories function

(switching on the ignition)

Once you have gained access to your vehicle, you may use some of its functions (radio, navigation, wipers, etc.).

To use the other features, with the card in the passenger compartment, press button 1 without pressing any of the pedals.

Operating faults

In some situations, it is possible that the hands-free card may not work:

  • if the card battery is weak or discharged, etc.
  • if the card is near devices that operate on the same frequency as the card (e.g. monitor, mobile phone, video game, etc.);
  • if the vehicle is located in a zone of high electromagnetic radiation.

The "Place card on zone + START" message appears on the instrument panel.

Press the brake or clutch pedal, then place card 3 on the 4 symbol. Press button 1 to start the engine. The message disappears.

Conditions for stopping the engine

The vehicle must be stationary, with the lever in position P for vehicles equipped with an automatic gearbox.

With the card in the vehicle, press button 1: the engine will be switched off.

The steering column will lock when the driver door is opened or when the vehicle is locked.

If the card is no longer in the passenger compartment or if the card battery is low, when the vehicle is stationary and you try to switch off the engine, the message "Keycard absent : press/hold START" will be displayed on the instrument panel: press button 1 for at least three seconds. If the card is no longer in the passenger compartment, check that it can be recovered before pressing and holding the button. Without the card, you will not be able to start the vehicle again.

With the engine off, accessories in use (such as the radio) continue to work for approximately 10 minutes.

When the driver’s door is opened, the accessories stop working.

Never turn off the ignition until the vehicle is stationary. Once the engine has stopped, functions such as power-assisted brakes, steering etc. and passive safety devices such as airbags and pre-tensioners are deactivated.

Do not park the vehicle or run the engine in locations where combustible substances or materials, such as foliage or dry leaves, may come into contact with the hot exhaust system.

When you leave your vehicle, especially if you have your card with you, check that the engine is completely switched off.

Before carrying out any work in the engine compartment, you must switch off the ignition.
