Renault Boreal
This system enables a reduced fuel consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
The system is activated automatically when the vehicle is started.
When driving, the system stops the engine (standby) when the vehicle is at a standstill.
The
warning light is displayed on the instrument panel.
Conditions for engine standby
The vehicle has set off from where it was parked;
For vehicles equipped with automatic gearboxes:
- the gear selector is in position D or N;
and
- the brake pedal is depressed (sufficiently hard);
Depending on the vehicle, if the indicator light flashes
and the message "Press brake pedal" is displayed on the instrument panel, it will mean the brake pedal is not pressed sufficiently;
and
- the accelerator pedal is not depressed;
and
the speed is zero.
The engine will remain on standby if position P is selected, or if position N is selected with the handbrake engaged and the brake pedal released.
For all vehicles:
The warning light
on the instrument panel remains lit while the engine is on stand by. The vehicle equipment remain operational while the engine is stopped.
When the engine is in stand by mode, the power steering may not operate.
In this case, it will start to operate again when the engine is no longer in standby mode or if the vehicle is moving faster than approximately 1 mph (e.g. on a downhill slope).
warning
If the engine is put into standby, the electronic parking brake (depending on the vehicle) will not be applied automatically.
warning
Keep your vehicle stationary when the engine is on standby (shown by the warning light
on the instrument panel).
warning
Before getting out of the vehicle, the engine must be switched off (and not put on standby) Ignition switch.
Preventing activation of engine standby mode
In certain situations, when crossing a junction for instance, it is possible to keep the engine running while the system is active, ready to move off quickly.
For vehicles equipped with automatic gearboxes:
Keep the vehicle stationary without pressing too hard on the brake pedal.
tip
To fill up with fuel, the engine must be switched off (and not only in standby mode for vehicles equipped with the Stop and Start function): you must switch off the ignition Ignition switch.
Fire hazard.
Coming out of engine standby mode
For vehicles equipped with automatic gearboxes:
- when the driver's door is opened;
or
- when the driver's seat belt is not fastened;
or
- when the brake pedal is release, position D is engaged;
or
- when the brake pedal is released, position N is engaged and the handbrake is released;
or
- when the brake pedal is pressed again, position P is engaged or position N is engaged with the parking brake engaged Automatic gearbox, electronic lever;
or
- the accelerator pedal is pressed;
or
- when position R is engaged;
or
- when, depending on the vehicle, the gear paddles are used in manual mode (M).
Special note: depending on the vehicle, if you switch off the ignition when the engine is on standby, the
warning light may appear for a few seconds on the instrument panel.
Conditions preventing standby mode
Certain conditions prevent the system from using the engine standby function, including when:
- the driver's door is not closed;
- Seat belt reminder warning light
- reverse gear is engaged;
- the bonnet is not locked;
- The outside temperature is very low or very high;
- the battery is not sufficiently charged;
- the difference between the vehicle's internal temperature and the automatic climate control set point is too great;
- the Park Assist function is working;
- the altitude is very high;
- on steep slopes, for vehicles equipped with an automatic gearbox;
- The "Clear View" function is activated Automatic climate control;
- the engine temperature is too low;
- the anti-pollution system is regenerating;
- ...
The warning light
appears on the instrument panel to indicate that engine standby is not available.
warning
The engine must be switched off (not placed in neutral) before any operations are carried out in the engine compartment.
You must switch off the ignition Ignition switch.
Special feature of the automatic engine re-start
Under certain conditions, the engine can restart on its own in order to guarantee your safety and comfort.
This can occur when:
- The outside temperature is very low or very high;
- The "Clear View" function is activated Automatic climate control;
- the battery is not sufficiently charged;
- the vehicle speed is above 3 mph (5 km/h) (downhill slope, etc.);
- the brake pedal is pressed repeatedly or there is a requirement of the braking system;
- ...
the indicator
light is displayed on the instrument panel to notify you of the automatic engine reset.
warning
Before getting out of the vehicle, the engine must be switched off (and not on standby) Ignition switch
Deactivating, activating the function
Press the switch 1 to deactivate the function. The message "Stop & Start deactivated" is displayed on the instrument panel and the switch indicator light 1 goes on.
Pressing this again will reactivate the system. The message "Stop & Start Activated" is displayed on the instrument panel and the switch indicator light 1 goes on.
The system is automatically reactivated each time the vehicle is started using the start button Ignition switch.
Operating faults
When the "Check Stop & Start" message appears on the instrument panel accompanied by the illumination of the switch 1 indicator light, this indicates that the system is deactivated.
Consult an approved Dealer.
tip
Special note: when the engine is on standby, pressing the switch 1 once will automatically restart the engine.
