Before towing, set the gearbox to N position then wait for around a minute. Unlock the steering column then release the parking brake.

Steering column unlocking

With the key in your possession, press the vehicle START/STOP button for about 5 seconds without pressing the brake pedal.

The steering column unlocks and the accessory functions are powered: you can use the vehicle's lights (direction indicators, brake lights, etc.). At night the vehicle must have its lights on.

Depending on the vehicle, once you have finished towing, press the engine start button twice (risk of running down the battery).

The speed specified by current legislation for towing must always be observed. If you are driving the towing vehicle, do not exceed the maximum towing weight for your vehicle.

Towing 2-wheel drive and hybrid vehicles (For 4 wheel drive vehicles, see the following.)

  • The vehicle must be powered on while towing with the gear lever in neutral (N).

2-wheel drive and hybrid vehicles must be towed with the front wheels raised.

  • Do not tow at speeds exceeding 50 km/h.
  • The forward towing distance must not exceed 50 km and the vehicle speed must not exceed 50 km/h.
  • Reverse towing is not possible.
  • There should be no hardware damage to the transmission, no damage to the transmission components of the entire vehicle, and no fault alarm messages on the instrument panel.
  • It is prohibited to accelerate from 0 to more than 50 km/h in less than 14 seconds.

The vehicle cannot be towed and must be transported by a special transport vehicle or trolley in the following situations.

  • If the vehicle’s transmission has no lubricant
  • If the towing distance of a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission exceeds 50 km

Towing a 4 wheel drive (4WD) vehicle

The transmission is not lubricated while the engine is off. Tow this type of vehicle on a trailer.

When towing ends, press the vehicle start button twice in succession to power off the vehicle (to prevent the battery from discharging).

4 wheel drive in any case (4WD) vehicles should not be towed with their tires on the ground.

Front towing point

The front tow ring mounting holes are located on the right side of the front bumper.

Insert a tool, such as a flat-blade screwdriver, into area A of tow ring cover 1 and pry to remove cover 1.

Tighten the towing ring 2 to the maximum.Tighten it by hand first, then use a wheel wrench or lever, etc. to fully tighten it.

Note: Drive slowly, as excessive traction can damage the vehicle.

Rear towing point

The rear towing ring mounting holes are located on the right side of the rear bumper.

Insert a tool, such as a flat-blade screwdriver, into part B of the towing ring cover 3, and remove the cover 3 by prying it off.

Tighten the towing ring 2 to the maximum.Tighten it by hand first, then use a wheel wrench or lever, etc. to fully tighten it.

Note: Drive slowly, as excessive traction can damage the vehicle.

Ensure that the towing ring is bolted correctly. Risk of losing the towed object.

  • Use a rigid tow bar. If a rope or cable is used (where the law allows this), the vehicle being towed must be able to brake.
  • A vehicle must not be towed if it is not fit to be driven.
  • Avoid accelerating or braking suddenly when towing, as this may result in damage being caused to the vehicle.
  • In any case, it is advisable not to exceed 16 mph (25 km/h).

Do not leave the tools unsecured inside the vehicle as they may be projected during braking.
