Starting the engine

The card must be in the detection zone 2.

To start:

  • on vehicles with a manual gearbox, press the brake pedal or clutch and press button 1. If a gear is engaged, the vehicle may only be started by depressing the clutch pedal.

Special features

  • If any of the starting conditions is not met, the "Press Brake + START" or "Press Clutch + Start" or "Select Gearbox Position "P"" message is displayed on the instrument panel;
  • in some cases, it will be necessary to move the steering wheel whilst pressing the start button 1 to help unlock the steering column: in this case the "Turn Steering Wheel + START" message will warn you.

Note:

  • on vehicles equipped with a manual gearbox, in the event of engine stalling the "Press Clutch" message is displayed on the instrument panel. Fully press the clutch pedal to restart the engine;
tip

During a system update via the multimedia system it will not be possible to start the vehicle.

Wait for the update to be completed before starting the vehicle.

"Hands-free" starting with the luggage compartment open

In this case, the card should not be located in the luggage compartment, to prevent the risk of loss.

Driver's responsibility when parking or stopping the vehicle

Never leave an animal, child or adult who is not self-sufficient alone in your vehicle, even for a short time.

They may pose a risk to themselves or to others by starting the engine, activating equipment such as the electric windows or locking the doors.

Also, in hot and/or sunny weather, please remember that the temperature inside the passenger compartment increases very quickly.

Accessories function

(switching on the ignition)

Once you have gained access to your vehicle, you may use some of its functions (radio, navigation, wipers, etc.).

To use the other functions, with the card in the passenger compartment, press the button 1 without pressing the pedals.

Operating faults

In certain cases, the hands-free card may not work:

  • when the card battery is drained, flat battery, etc.
  • the card is near to appliances operating on the same frequency (monitor, mobile phone, video game device, etc.);
  • the vehicle is located in a high electromagnetic radiation zone.

The "Place card on zone + START" message appears on the instrument panel.

Press the brake or clutch pedal, then place the card 3 (A or B ) on the symbol 4 (A or B ). Press the button 1 to start the vehicle. The message goes out.

Conditions for stopping the engine

The vehicle must be stationary, with the lever positioned to P for vehicles with an automatic gearbox.

The steering column is locked when the driver's door is opened or the vehicle is locked.

If the card is no longer in the passenger compartment or if the card's battery is flat, when the vehicle is stationary and you try to switch the engine off, the "Keycard absent : press/hold START" message appears on the instrument panel: press the button 1 for at least three seconds. If the card is no longer in the passenger compartment, make sure you can retrieve it before pressing and holding the button. Without the card, you will not be able to restart the vehicle.

With the engine switched off, any accessories being used (radio, etc.) will continue to function for approximately 10 minutes.

When the driver’s door is opened, the accessories stop working.

Never switch off the ignition until the vehicle is stationary. Once the engine has stopped, the brake servo, power-assisted steering, etc., and the passive safety devices such as the airbags and pretensioners will no longer operate.

Do not park the vehicle or run the engine in locations where combustible substances or materials such as grass or leaves can come into contact with a hot exhaust system.

When you leave your vehicle, especially if you have your card with you, check that the engine is completely switched off.

warning

Before carrying out any operation in the engine compartment, you must switch off the ignition.

Remote engine start-up

This function allows remote starting of the engine.

Initialisation

If the vehicle is so equipped, press the unlocking button 5 then press the remote start button twice in succession for about 2 seconds each time 6. The time between the two presses must be less than 5 seconds. The hazard warning lights will come on continuously for 3 seconds to confirm the system reset.

tip

Once the function has been activated, it cannot be deactivated.

Operation

To start the engine remotely, press the locking button 7 then within another 2 seconds, press the remote start button 6 for approximately 2 seconds. The hazard lights come on continuously for approximately 3 seconds and the engine starts.

The engine will run for 10 minutes. Once the engine is running, it is possible to extend the running-time for 10 minutes by pressing again on the remote start button 6. The hazard lights come on continuously for 3 seconds to confirm that the function has been prolonged.

Remote engine start performance varies according to surroundings such as:

  • Obstacles, buildings, walls, other vehicles, etc;
  • the vehicle is located in a high electromagnetic radiation zone or other radio frequency interference (television, radio, mobile telephone, all other remote controllers etc.);
  • Condition of the key/card battery.

In the event that the function is used, please ensure that power-consuming devices (such as the wipers, exterior lights, radio, etc.) are deactivated and all accessories are disconnected before leaving the vehicle.

Fire hazard.

The remote engine start-up operates if:

  • the lever is in neutral position on vehicles with a manual gearbox;
  • the lever is in position P for vehicles with an automatic gearbox;
  • the ignition is switched off;
  • the bonnet is closed;
  • all of the opening elements (doors and luggage compartment) are closed and locked when you leave the vehicle;
  • vehicle is immobilized.

If one of these conditions is not met, the lights will flash for approximately 3 seconds.

warning

Do not use the engine remote start-up function when:

  • the vehicle is in a garage or in a confined space.

Risk of poisoning or suffocation by exhaust gas emissions.

  • the vehicle is covered with a protective cover.

Fire hazard.

  • the bonnet is open or before it opens.

Risk of burns or serious injury.

Depending on the country, the use of the remote starting function can be prohibited by the legislation and/ or the regulations in force.
