Renault Kardian Latam

The system uses information from camera 1 to determine the distance from your vehicle:

  • from the vehicle in front in the same lane;

or

  • of any vehicle approaching in the context of a manoeuvre to change direction;
  • from oncoming vehicles at intersections.

or

  • stationary vehicles;

or

  • pedestrians and cyclists in the area.

The system informs the driver if there is a risk of a frontal collision to enable appropriate emergency manoeuvres to be carried out (pressing the brake pedal and/or rotating the steering wheel).

Depending on the driver's ability to react, the system may assist with braking in order to limit damage or avoid a collision.

Otherwise, the system remains inactive and does not trigger an alert.

warning

This function is an additional driving aid. The driver should always be in control of the vehicle, with this system not being a replacement for due care and attention in any way.

tip

This system may apply maximum braking to bring the vehicle to a complete stop.

For safety reasons, always wear your seat belt when travelling in the vehicle and check the cargo so that there is no risk of items being hurled forward and hitting passengers.

Camera location 1

Make sure that the windscreen is not obscured (by dirt, mud, snow, condensation, etc.).

Operation

When driving, when there is a risk of collision, the system:

  • warns of a risk of collision: the "Detected obstacle" message appears on the instrument panel accompanied by an sound alert.

Note: if the driver presses the brake pedal and the system still detects a risk of collision, the braking force may be increased if it is not sufficient to avoid the collision.

  • the following may trigger braking: if the driver does not react to the alert and the collision becomes imminent, the red 2_ALL_425_1_pictogramme.png warning light and the "Brake" message are displayed on the instrument panel accompanied by a beep.

Note:

  • if the driver uses the vehicle controls (steering wheel, pedals, etc.), the system may slow down or not activate certain operations.

  • if active emergency braking causes the vehicle to stop, the vehicle will be kept stationary for a short period of time. Beyond this time limit, the driver must keep the vehicle stationary with his foot pressing the brake pedal;

  • after the system activates braking, the "Advanced Safety triggered" message will be displayed.

tip

In the event of an emergency manoeuvre, you can stop braking at any time:

  • by touching the accelerator pedal;

or

  • by turning the steering wheel in a swerving manoeuvre to avoid a collision.
tip

Special features of alerts

Depending on the speed, the warning and braking may be activated simultaneously.

Vehicle detection

Detection of vehicles moving in the same lane

The risk of collision with the vehicle in front in the same lane is detected by the system when:

  • your vehicle is moving at a speed between approximately 5 mph (8 km/h) and 112 mph (180 km/h).

Detecting a vehicle approaching in the context of a manoeuvre to change direction

When you want to change direction (example A), oncoming vehicles are detected by the system when:

  • your vehicle is moving at a speed between approximately 5 mph (8 km/h) and 12 mph (20 km/h);

  • you have activated the direction indicator light.

Detecting vehicles crossing the lane perpendicularly

Vehicles crossing the lane perpendicularly are detected by the system when:

  • your vehicle is moving at a speed between approximately 12 mph (8 km/h) and 37 mph (60 km/h).

Detecting vehicles stopped on the road

Stationary vehicles are detected by the system when:

  • your vehicle is moving at a speed between approximately 5 mph (8 km/h) and 50 mph (80 km/h).

Detecting pedestrians and cyclists

Detecting pedestrians and cyclists in the same lane

The system detects pedestrians and cyclists when:

  • your vehicle is moving at a speed between approximately 5 mph (8 km/h) and 53 mph (85 km/h).

Detecting pedestrians and cyclists when changing direction

The system detects pedestrians and cyclists when:

  • your vehicle is moving at a speed between approximately 5 mph (8 km/h) and 12 mph (20 km/h);

Activation/deactivation

tip

Depending on the vehicle and according to the time elapsed since the last time the engine was switched off, the function is reactivated:

  • when the vehicle is unlocked;

or

  • when a door is opened;

or

  • when the engine is started again.

Activating and deactivating the system from the multimedia screen 2

To activate or deactivate the function, refer to the multimedia instructions.

Select "ON" or "OFF".

Adjustment

warning

For safety reasons, carry out adjustments while the vehicle is stationary.

System settings via the multimedia screen 2

With the vehicle stationary, to access the function settings from the multimedia screen 2, refer to the multimedia instructions:

"Alert": adjust the sensitivity level. To do this, select:

  • "Later";
  • "Standard"
  • "Earlier"

See the multimedia instructions for more information.

Temporarily unavailable

If the system detects a temporary fault, the 2_ALL_425_1_pictogramme.png warning light will light up or, depending on the vehicle, the warning light will light up in yellow on the instrument panel.

Possible causes are:

  • the system being temporarily dazzled (sun glare, dipped beam headlights, adverse weather conditions, etc.). The system will become operational again once visibility conditions have improved;

  • the system is temporarily interrupted (e.g. the windscreen is obscured by dirt, mud, snow, condensation, etc.). In this case, park the vehicle and switch off the engine. Clean the windscreen. The next time the engine is started, after five or ten minutes of driving, the warning light and message disappear. If this is not the case, the cause may be elsewhere: contact an approved dealer.

Operating faults

When the function detects an operating fault, the 2_ALL_425_1_pictogramme.png warning light or, depending on the vehicle, the warning light will light up in yellow on the instrument panel.

consult an approved dealer.

Warnings

warning

Active emergency braking

This function is an additional driving aid. The driver should always be in control of the vehicle, with this system not being a replacement for due care and attention in any way. The activation of this function may be delayed or prevented when the system detects clear signs that the driver is controlling the vehicle (action on the steering wheel, pedals, etc.).

The system cannot be activated:

  • if the electronic stability control (ESC) is activated.

System repairs/maintenance

  • In the event of an impact, the camera may be modified and its performance may therefore be affected. Deactivate the feature and consult an approved dealer.
  • Any work in the area where the camera is located (repairs, replacement of windscreen, etc.) must be carried out by a qualified professional.

Only an approved dealer is fully certified to carry out system maintenance.

warning

System malfunctions

The system may be affected or damaged by some conditions, such as:

  • poor weather conditions (snow, hail, black ice, etc.);
  • poor visibility (night time, fog, etc.);

  • insufficient contrast between the object (vehicle, pedestrian, etc.) and the surroundings (e.g. pedestrian dressed in white in a snowy area, etc.);

  • dazzling (bright sun, headlights of vehicles coming from the opposite direction, etc.);

  • the windscreen is obscured (by dirt, ice, snow, condensation, etc.);

  • ...

In these conditions, the system may not react, may warn the driver or may brake accidentally.

System operating limits

  • Each time the vehicle is switched on, the system performs a calibration according to the area around the vehicle and may be inactive for a period of time between approximately two and five minutes of driving;

  • an oncoming vehicle will not trigger any warning or system action if the conditions described in the paragraph on "Special characteristics of vehicles changing direction" are not met;

  • To ensure that the system operates correctly, the camera must be kept clean and not modified;

  • the system may not respond to small vehicles as efficiently as to other vehicles;

  • the system may not operate correctly when the road surface is slippery (rain, snow, black ice, etc.);

  • the system must be able to distinguish the entire obstacle in order to operate correctly. Therefore, the system cannot detect:

    • pedestrians/cyclists in the dark or in poor lighting conditions;

    • partially visible pedestrians/cyclists;

    • pedestrians with a height of less than approximately 80 cm;

    • pedestrians carrying large objects;

    • ...

In these conditions, the system may not react, may warn the driver or may brake accidentally.

warning

Disabling the feature

You should deactivate the function if:

  • the camera area has been damaged (e.g., inside or outside the windscreen);

  • the vehicle is being towed (breakdown recovery);
  • the windscreen is cracked or distorted (do not carry out repairs to the windscreen in this area as it must be replaced by an approved dealer);

  • the vehicle is being driven on an unpaved road.

Speak to your approved dealer if you notice any abnormal behaviour.

Interrupting the function

You can interrupt the active braking function at any time by touching the accelerator pedal or turning the steering wheel in a swerving manoeuvre to avoid a collision.
