New Renault Duster
Breakdown recovery
Before towing, set the lever to Neutral (N position on vehicles equipped with an automatic gearbox), unlock the steering column then release the parking brake.
On vehicles fitted with an automatic gearbox, if it is not possible to set the gear lever to N position, consult an approved dealer.
General information
The speed specified by current legislation for towing must always be observed.
If you are driving the towing vehicle, do not exceed the permissible towing weight for your vehicle.
Towing or recovering your vehicle with a platform truck
It is preferable to transport the vehicle on a platform or to tow it with the front wheels off the ground.
Observe the following instructions:
- insert the key into the ignition, turn it to "On" ON or, depending on the vehicle, with the card present in the passenger compartment, press the engine start button for more than two seconds without pressing the brake pedal. The "Permanent IGN activated" message is displayed on the instrument panel.
- reposition the gear lever to neutral (N position on vehicles fitted with an automatic gearbox).
The steering column is unlocked and the accessory functions are powered. You can use the vehicle lighting (direction indicator lights, brake lights, etc.). At night, the vehicle must be lit;
- unfasten the driver's seat belt if it is fastened;
- open the driver's door;
- release the parking brake while pressing the brake pedal (the indicator light on the
switch and the
warning light on the
instrument panel will go out); - close the driver's door and do not lock the vehicle.
Note: if the gear control cannot be set to N position, contact an Approved Dealer.
Depending on the vehicle, once the towing is complete, press the engine start button for more than two seconds without pressing the brake pedal (risk of battery discharging). The "Permanent IGN activated" message disappears from the instrument panel.
warning
When the engine is stopped, steering and braking assistance are no longer provided.
warning
Do not remove the key from the ignition switch, or leave the card in the vehicle during towing (depending on the vehicle).
Risk of the steering column locking.
Special features on vehicles equipped with an automatic gearbox
In exceptional circumstances, you can tow the vehicle with all four wheels on the ground only in a forward gear, with the gear control in Neutral (N) position, over a maximum distance of 50 miles (80 km) and not exceeding a speed of 16 mph (25 km/h).
Use only the front 2 and rear 4 towing points (never use the drive shafts or any other part of the vehicle).
These towing points may only be used for pulling.
They must never be used for lifting the vehicle directly or indirectly.
warning
Ensure that the tow eye is screwed in correctly.
Risk of losing the towed object.
warning
When storing the tools, ensure they are securely replaced in the luggage compartment, in their original position.
Do not leave the tools unsecured inside the vehicle as they may be projected during braking.
Access to towing points
Front towing point 2
To access the towing point 2, unclip the front cover 1 by inserting a flat-blade screwdriver or a similar tool into the groove A, B and C ;

Rear towing point 4
To access the towing point 4, unclip the rear cover 5 by inserting a flat-blade screwdriver or a similar tool into the groove D, E and F;

- a vehicle must not be towed if it is not fit to be driven.
- avoid accelerating or braking suddenly when towing, as this may result in damage being caused to the vehicle.
- In any case, it is advisable not to exceed 16 mph (25 km/h).
- Do not push the vehicle if the steering column is locked.
