Selector lever 1

R Reverse

N: Neutral

D: Operation in automatic mode

P: Park, button 2

The display 3 on the instrument panel shows the engaged position of the selection lever 1

warning

Check that the indicator light P on the instrument panel and the indicator light integrated into button 2 are displayed before leaving the vehicle.

Risk of loss of immobilisation of the vehicle

Starting

With the vehicle stationary and selector lever 1 in position P, start the vehicle.

With your foot on the brake pedal, leave position P and engage position D.

The lever should only be moved to position D or R while the vehicle is stationary, the foot is on the brake and the accelerator pedal is released.

Operation

Switch the selector lever 1 one or two positions forwards or backwards to engage the desired position (R, N, D). Then release the lever and it will return to the stable position.

The engaged position lights up on the instrument panel.

If conditions prevent you from changing from one position to another, the requested position will flash on the instrument panel.

To engage position P

With the vehicle stationary and the engine running or the ignition on, press button 2 to engage position P. The indicator light on button 2 is displayed in orange as soon as the Park P position is engaged in the gearbox.

To disengage position P

With the vehicle stationary and the engine on, press the brake pedal and move the selector lever 1 forwards or backwards to select the desired position. The light on button 2 goes out.

If the brake pedal is not fully depressed, the message "Press brake pedal" and the indicator light 2_ALL_472_1_pictogramme.png will be displayed on the instrument panel.

Note:

  • If the driver opens the door to leave the vehicle and P the position has not been engaged, a beep will sound and the message "P not engaged" will be displayed on the instrument panel;
  • The indicator light 2_ALL_472_1_pictogramme.png is displayed whenever the brake pedal needs to be pressed to change the position of the automatic gearbox lever.

To engage Neutral gear (N position)

With the vehicle stationary and the engine running, to engage the position N, move the selector lever 1 one notch forwards or backwards according to the gear engaged.

To engage Drive gear (D position)

With the vehicle stationary and the engine running, move selector lever 1 one position backwards to engage position D.

If one of the conditions is not applied, D flashes for approximately five seconds and the "Press brake pedal" message is displayed on the instrument panel for approximately 15 seconds.

In most driving conditions, you will no longer need to use the gear lever: the gears change automatically, at the right time, at a given engine speed because the automated system takes into account the vehicle's load, the road profile and the selected driving style.

Note: With the engine running and the vehicle moving between 0 and 5 mph, in position N or R, you will need to press the brake pedal to engage position D. This is useful during parking manoeuvres that require a series of alternating back and forth movements.

Economical driving

While driving, always leave the lever in position D, keeping the accelerator pedal down a little to ensure that gear changes occur automatically at a lower engine speed.

Accelerating and overtaking

Depress the accelerator pedal briskly and fully (so that it goes beyond the point of resistance).

This will enable you to change down to the optimum gear within the engine range.

To engage Reverse gear (R position)

With the vehicle stationary and the engine running, move the selector lever 1 two positions forwards to engage position R.

If the brake pedal is not depressed, a beep will sound, the position display R will flash for approximately five seconds on the grille shown on the instrument panel and the message "Press brake pedal" will be displayed for approximately 15 seconds.

Note: With the engine running and the vehicle moving between 0 and 5 mph, in position N or D, you will need to press the brake pedal to engage position R. This is useful during parking manoeuvres that require a series of alternating back and forth movements.

Special circumstances

  • If the road type or weather conditions (steep uphill slopes, sudden downhill slopes, deep snow, sand or mud) make it difficult to stay in automatic mode. This will prevent the "automatic gearbox" from changing gears repeatedly when driving uphill, and permit engine braking on long descents.
  • To avoid the engine stalling in very cold weather, wait a few seconds before disengaging P or N position and shifting the lever to D/B or R.

Parking the vehicle

On vehicles equipped with lever 1, P position is automatically engaged along with the electronic parking brake (if the vehicle is equipped), when:

  • the engine is stopped;
  • the driver's seatbelt is unfastened and the vehicle is stopped;
  • the driver's door is opened and the vehicle is stopped.

P is displayed on the instrument panel and the P button lights up

As P position is automatically engaged when the engine is stopped, you may have to engage N position in some situations, for example in some car washes:

  • with the engine running, press button P, shift the selector lever 1 a notch forwards or backwards then switch off the engine;
  • with the engine off and the ignition on, move the selector lever 1 a notch forwards or backwards then switch-off the engine.

The next time the engine is restarted, P position is engaged automatically according to the cases described earlier.

tip

The P position must only be engaged when the vehicle is stationary.

tip

When facing uphill, to remain stopped, do not keep your foot on the accelerator.

Risk of overheating the automatic gearbox.

warning

For safety reasons, do not switch off the ignition before the vehicle has come to a complete standstill.

Maintenance period

Refer to the maintenance document for your vehicle or consult an approved Dealer to check whether the automatic gearbox requires scheduled maintenance.

If it does not need to be serviced, there is no need to top up the oil.

Operating faults

  • When driving, if the "WARNING: Check Gearbox" message appears on the instrument panel, it indicates a fault.

Contact your approved Dealer as soon as possible;

  • When driving, if the "WARNING: Gearbox Overheating" message appears on the instrument panel, stop as soon as possible to let the gearbox cool down and wait for the message to disappear;

In the event of engine failure or an electrical fault (battery fault) affecting operation of the automatic gearbox, ensure that the vehicle is properly immobilised.

warning

In the event an impact to the underside of the vehicle (e.g.: striking a post, raised kerb or other street furniture) this may result in damage to the vehicle (e.g.: twisted axle), the electrical circuit or the traction battery.

Do not touch the circuit elements or any fluids or liquids.

To prevent any risk of accident, have your vehicle checked by an authorised dealer.

Risk of serious injury or electric shock and risk to life.

Gear shift paddles 4 and 5

Depending on the vehicle, you can use gear shift paddles 4 and 5 to change gears when the lever is in D position (temporary manual mode).

4: shift down a gear.

5: shift up a gear.

The P, N and R positions cannot be engaged using the paddles.

Use

With the selection lever 1 in D position, you can use the paddles to change gears manually.

When driving in automatic mode you can use the paddles to change gears occasionally. In this condition, display 3 shows the selected gear (e.g.: D3). When you stop pressing the paddles, the gearbox returns to automatic mode and the display 3 shows D position.

Manual mode

With the selection lever 1 in D position, press and hold the paddle 5 for two seconds to activate permanent manual mode.

The display 3 on the instrument panel changes from D to M.

When manual mode is activated, the display 3 shows the selected gear (e.g. M3).

Use paddles 4 and 5 to shift the gears upwards or downwards.

To optimise performance, the display 3 shows a + sign next to the gear number when the gear needs to shifted up (e.g. M3+).

To protect the gearbox, when trying to shift down a gear, if the engine revolutions are insufficient (below 3,500 rpm), the gearbox prevents the gear from changing and the display 3 flashes until the conditions are met.

To deactivate manual mode and return to automatic mode:

  • press and hold the paddle 5 again for two seconds;

    or;

  • move the selection lever 1 two notches backwards.

Display 3 changes from M to D.
