Renault Kardian Latam

"Off" position A

"Ignition" position B

The ignition is on and the engine can be started.

"Drive" position D

If the engine fails to start at the first attempt, turn the key back before activating the starter again.

Release the key as soon as the engine starts.

Starting the engine

Depending on the vehicle, if it is in gear, you should depress the clutch pedal or put the gear lever in neutral in order to start the engine. The message "Press the clutch' +start"" appears on the onboard computer display to inform you.

When the weather is very cold (temperatures below -20°C): help the engine start by leaving the ignition switched on for a few seconds before starting the engine.

To start the engine when the outside temperature is very low (below -10°C): press on the clutch pedal until the engine starts.

  • Turn the key to the “Start” position without depressing the accelerator pedal.
  • Release the key as soon as the engine starts.

When using ethanol hold the key for longer when starting the engine. The noises heard when starting are in this case normal.

After the engine has started, especially if the engine has not been run for several hours, idle speed will be increased for a few minutes. This is normal and intended to reduce emissions.

warning

Never switch off the ignition before the vehicle has come to a complete stop. Once the engine has stopped, functions such as power-assisted brakes, steering etc. and passive safety devices such as airbags and pre-tensioners are deactivated.

Stopping the engine

With the engine idling, turn the key to the "Stop" position A.

Special instructions

Depending on the vehicle, accessories (e.g. radio) stop working either when the engine is switched off, or when the driver’s door is opened, or when the doors are locked.

warning

Do not park the vehicle or run the engine in locations where combustible substances or materials such as grass or leaves can come into contact with a hot exhaust system.
