Deactivating the front passenger air bag

(depending on the vehicle)

Before installing a child seat on the front passenger seat:

  • check that the child seat can be installed on this seat;
  • you must deactivate the passenger airbag when installing a rear-facing child seat.

To deactivate the airbag: with the vehicle stationary and the ignition switched off, open and turn the lock 1 to the OFF position.

When the ignition is on, it is essential to check that the warning light is lit on the display A.

This warning light stays on continuously to let you know you can adjust a child seat.

DANGER

As the deployment of the front passenger airbag is not compatible with the positioning of a rear-facing child seat, NEVER install a rear-facing child seat restraint system on a seat protected by an ACTIVATED front AIRBAG. This may cause the DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY of the CHILD.

warning

The passenger airbag can only be activated or deactivated when the vehicle is stationary and the ignition is off.

If this is attempted when the vehicle is in motion, the warning lights 2_ALL_094_1_pictogramme.png and 1_ALL_036_1_pictogramme.png will come on.

To adjust the airbag status to the locked position, switch the ignition off and on.

These instructions are provided by markings on the instrument panel and on the labels B on each side of the passenger sun visor 2 (e.g. the label shown above).

Activating the front passenger airbag

(depending on the vehicle)

As soon as you remove the child seat from the front passenger seat, reactivate the airbag immediately in order to protect the passenger in the event of an impact.

To deactivate the airbag: with the vehicle stationary and the ignition off,, press and turn the lock 1 to the ON position.

When the ignition is on, you must check that the 2_ALL_053_1_pictogramme.png warning light is off and that the 2_ALL_204_1_pictogramme.png warning light appears on the display A during approximately 60 seconds each time the engine is started.

The front passenger airbag is activated.

Operating faults

When the airbag activation/deactivation system is faulty, you must not install a rear-facing child seat on the front passenger seat.

Allowing any other passenger to sit in that seat is not recommended.

Contact an approved dealer as soon as possible.
