Renault Kardian Latam
If fitted to the vehicle, this system warns the driver if one or more tyres lose pressure.
Operating principle
The system detects the loss of pressure in a tyre by measuring the wheel speed while driving.
The
warning light is displayed on the instrument panel to alert the driver in the event of insufficient tyre pressure (flat tyre, puncture, etc.).
warning
This function is an additional driving aid.
The function does not take the place of the driver. It cannot, therefore, under any circumstances replace the vigilance or the responsibility of the driver. Check the tyre pressures, including the emergency spare wheel, once a month.
Operating conditions
The system must be reset with the same tyre pressure as indicated on the tyre pressure label. Otherwise, it may not provide a reliable warning in the event of a significant loss of tyre pressure.
The tyres should always be reset after checking the tyre pressure of all four tyres when cold.
In the following situations, there is a risk that the warning system will be activated late or not work correctly:
- the system is not reset after the tyres are inflated or following any other operation on the wheels;
- the system resets incorrectly because of the tyres being inflated to a pressure different to that recommended;
- a significant change to the load or the load distribution on one side of the vehicle;
- sporty driving using rapid acceleration;
- when driving on a slippery or snow-covered surface;
- Driving with studded snow tyres;
- when only one new tyre is fitted;
- using tyres which are not those specified.
tip
The sudden loss of pressure in a tyre (burst tyre, etc.) cannot be detected by the system.
Resetting the standard level for the tyre pressures
This should be performed:
- After each calibration or reset of the tyre pressure;
- after changing a wheel;
- after tyre rotation.
Tyre pressures must correspond to the current usage of the vehicle (empty, carrying a load, motorway driving, etc.).
Resetting the system
Ignition on, vehicle stationary:
- repeatedly press switch 3 as many times as necessary until the trip computer is displayed;
- Briefly press switch 4 or 5 to get to the "Tyre Pressure Initialization" page. Pres.” ;
- Press and hold switch 6OK to start the reset.
Keep pressing the switch 6 until the "Operation complete" message appears. You can now drive.
Warning messages
The table below shows the possible messages related to the tyre resetting procedure.
Steps | Warning messages | Reason |
|---|---|---|
- | Tyre pressure init. at stop | The message is shown while driving. To reset the pressure of all four tyres, stop the vehicle. |
1 | Tyre pressure init. long press | To reset the pressure of all four tyres, with the vehicle stopped, press and hold switch 6OK to start resetting until the message "If pressure OK [hold on]" appears. |
2 | If pressure OK [hold on] | The message flashes to indicate that the system has registered the resetting procedure. If all four tyres have been correctly adjusted to match the tyre pressure values recommended on the tyre pressure label, press and hold switch 6OK until the message "Operation completed" appears. |
3 | Operation completed | The resetting procedure has been completed successfully. You can now drive. |
Recalibrate the tyre pressure.
The pressure of all four tyres must be adjusted while cold (see tyre pressure label).
If tyre pressures cannot be checked when the tyres are cold, the recommended pressures should be increased by 0.2 to 0.3 bar (3 psi).
Never deflate a hot tyre.
Every time a tyre is inflated or the tyre pressure is adjusted, the tyre pressure reference value should be reset.
Replacing wheels/tyres
Use only network-approved equipment, otherwise the system will run the risk of late activation or incorrect operation.
Every time a wheel/tyre is changed, adjust the tyre pressure and reset the tyre pressure reference value.
Emergency spare wheel
If the vehicle is equipped, adjust the tyre pressure and reset the tyre pressure reference value.
Tyre pressure failure
The table on the following page lists the warning messages that appear on the instrument panel 7 when the system detects a tire pressure failure.
Warning messages
The information on the instrument panel signals any potential tyre pressure faults (e.g. deflated or punctured tyre)
Indicator light | Warning messages | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Inflate tyres and init. | This indicates that the tyre is not full enough or that a puncture has been detected. Check and adjust the pressure of all four tyres when cold, and restart the system. |
| Check tyre press and init. | This indicates that the resetting was not successful. Check and readjust the tyre pressure before starting the resetting procedure. |
| Check TPW | This indicates a system failure. Consult an Approved Dealer. |
| TPW available | This indicates that an emergency spare wheel different in size from the other four wheels has been fitted on the vehicle. The system remains unavailable until a wheel of the same size as the other wheels is has been fitted and the resetting procedure has been carried out. |
