Driving in automatic shift mode

P (Parking) button 2

The selected position of the gear lever 1 is displayed on the instrument panel.

Operating the gear lever

Depending on the current gear of gear lever 1, push the lever forward/backward once or twice to change to a different gear. For example, if the current gear is D, pushing the lever forward once will change to N. If you wait a moment and the lever returns to its original position, you can push it forward once more to change to R.

Pressing the P button puts the car into Park. To leave Park, press the brake pedal and slide the gear lever forward or backward.

Manual shift mode M can be selected by sliding the lever to the left (-) or right (+) when in position D.

P (parking)

With the vehicle stopped, pressing the P button 2 puts the Park position. P displays in the instrument panel.

Make sure the electronic parking brake is engaged. Electronic parking brake

Starting the vehicle is only possible when the gear lever is in P or N.

If the vehicle is turned off and a door is opened while the gear is not in P, an alarm will sound.

When the engine is running, P automatically engages if all of the following conditions are met

  • The vehicle is at a standstill.
  • The driver's door is open.
  • The driver's seat belt is not fastened.
  • The pedal is not depressed.
warning

For your safety, do not turn off the vehicle before it has come to a complete stop.

warning

After the hill-start assist engages, the vehicle can roll backward (or move forward when in R) even if the gear lever is in D, so for your safety, use the parking brake to prevent rolling backward.

If the vehicle is pushed back severely, the ignition may shut off.

R (reverse)

Make sure the vehicle has come to a complete stop before engaging Reverse gear.

warning

You can only engage R when the vehicle is stopped and the engine is idling, otherwise the transmission can be damaged.

N (neutral)

When the gear lever is in this position, the transmission is idling, engine power is not transmitted to the drive wheels, and engine braking is not provided. To shift from N to P when the vehicle is stopped and the engine is running, press the P button. To shift from Neutral to Reverse, push the shift stalk forward once, and to shift from Neutral to Drive, push the shift stalk backward once.

To shift out of Neutral into another gear, the brake pedal must be depressed and the vehicle START/STOP button must be in mode II or the ignition must be on.

Driving in D automatic shift mode

Place shift stalk 1 in D. In most traffic situations, you do not need to operate the gear lever. Your vehicle automatically shifts based on your driving speed. This is because the automatic shift system takes into account the vehicle's load and road gradient and optimizes the system to match the driving method you choose. and optimizes the system to match your chosen driving style.

Fuel-efficient driving

On roads where communication is relatively smooth, drive with the gear lever in D. For relatively low-speed driving, gently press the accelerator pedal to allow the gear to shift automatically.

When accelerating and overtaking

When you want to accelerate and overtake a vehicle, quickly press the accelerator pedal deeply.

This engages the kickdown function and allows you to shift into the most appropriate gear.

warning

Do not place the gear lever in N while driving. The engine brake will not operate, which can be dangerous.

Driving in M manual shift mode

(for combustion engine specifications)

Shift the gear lever to position D and move it left or right to enter manual shift mode. The manual mode has an automatic return function. The vehicle will shift up one gear for each operation in the right direction, which is the “+” direction, and down one gear for each operation in the left direction, which is the “-” direction. To exit manual shift mode, slide the gear lever backward to shift into drive or forward to shift into neutral.

If the engine speed (rpm) is too low, the transmission may automatically shift into a lower gear. This helps prevent engine damage.

To change modes on a hybrid specification, see “Hybrid Vehicles: Operation” on page Operation.

When going down a long or steep hill, slow down first and then downshift. Use 3rd or 2nd gear to control your speed and apply the brake pedal to keep the vehicle traveling safely at a steady speed.

Minimize continuous use of the brake pedal. Otherwise, the brakes can easily fail.

Use caution when downshifting on slippery roads. Sudden shifts can cause the vehicle to spin or skid.

If you experience wheel skidding when driving on snowy or muddy roads, consider shifting the gear lever to manual mode and downshifting to a lower gear.

warning

Do not downshift suddenly while driving at high speeds. The engine brake will be applied abruptly, causing an accident.

warning

When the gear lever is in a position other than P or N, the vehicle will move forward or reverse when the brake is released, even if the accelerator pedal is not depressed. If you want to stop the vehicle in this position, depress the brake pedal.

In very cold weather, shifting gears in Manual mode can be more difficult than in warmer weather.

warning

Before leaving the vehicle, make sure the gear lever is in the Park P position. There is a risk of the vehicle moving.

Special environments

  • Curves and hills: In environments such as mountain roads, for example, it is difficult to maintain automatic shift mode, so it is recommended that you shift into manual mode.

This prevents the transmission from shifting continuously on uphill climbs, and allows you to use the engine brake on long downhills.

  • If the weather is cold: Start the vehicle and wait a few seconds before moving the gear lever out of P or N, then shift into D or R to prevent the vehicle from shutting off.

Do not place your foot on the accelerator pedal to remain stationary on an uphill grade.

There is a risk of overheating the automatic transmission.

warning

Collisions between the underside of the vehicle and an obstacle (such as a curb between a sidewalk and a driveway) when the vehicle is in reverse can cause damage to the vehicle (including deformation of the rear suspension).

If a collision occurs, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized service center to prevent accidents while driving.

Neutral parking (N position parking)

In situations where parking space is tight, when moving through an automatic car wash, or during vehicle towing, you may need to use Neutral parking (N position parking).

With autohold enabled, the electronic parking brake automatically engages and neutral parking is not possible, so you must disengage Autohold.

How it works:

  • The vehicle must operate only on level ground when it is fully stopped.
  • Touch the left side of the clock at the top of the center screen, then swipe down from top to bottom to select the [My control] screen, then select [Auto Hold] and [Activate Auto parking brake when gear is N] to [Off]. Multimedia equipment
  • If the electronic parking brake is engaged, manually disengage it by pressing the electronic parking brake lever while depressing the brake pedal. Electronic parking brake
  • You should see the electronic parking brake indicator light turn off on the instrument panel.
  • With the brake pedal depressed, move the shift stalk into N.
  • Press and hold the vehicle START/STOP button while depressing the brake pedal to turn off the vehicle.
  • Release the brake pedal, make sure the vehicle is not moving, and exit.
  • The remote start feature does not work in neutral park.
  • In neutral park, press and hold the LOCK button on your key to close and lock the windows if they are open.
warning

Neutral parking should be avoided at all costs as it can cause your vehicle to move. When neutral parking, be sure to park on a level surface and make sure the vehicle does not move after parking.

Maintenance

Refer to the scheduled maintenance intervals or contact an authorized service center to determine if the automatic transmission requires a periodic inspection.

If no maintenance is required, you do not need to top off the oil.

warning

If the engine stops, brake assist, power steering, and safety devices such as airbags and pretensioners may not function.

warning

Using the accelerator pedal to hold a stop on a steep incline, or repeatedly driving aggressively, such as hard launches and rapid acceleration, can cause the transmission to overheat and engage transmission protection mode. At this point, the instrument panel displays a warning message for the transmission overheating.

If you see this warning message, immediately apply the brakes, hold the gear lever in P, and bring the vehicle to a stop until the warning message disappears. You can resume driving after the warning message disappears. If the warning message continues to display, have your vehicle towed immediately to an authorized service center for inspection.
