Battery

The battery 1 does not require any maintenance. You should not open it or add any fluid.

warning

Handle the battery 1 with caution as it contains sulphuric acid, which must not come into contact with the eyes or skin. If this occurs, wash the affected area with plenty of water and, if necessary, consult a doctor.

Keep flames, incandescent spots and sparks away from battery components (risk of explosion).

Depending on the vehicle, a system continuously checks the battery charge status. If it decreases, the "12V battery backup mode" message will be displayed on the instrument panel, followed by "Battery Low Start Engine". In this situation, start the engine, drive the vehicle, or wait until the message disappears from the instrument panel.

Note: After 5 to 30 minutes of using the vehicle with the engine turned off, the "12V battery backup mode" message may be displayed to warn you that energy consuming functions (interior lighting, radio, navigation, ventilation, accessory power, etc.) may be turned off automatically.

The charge status of your 12 V battery may decrease, especially if you are using your vehicle:

  • for short trips;
  • in an urban environment;
  • when the temperature is low;
  • after extended use of power-consuming devices (radio, etc.) while the engine is turned off.
warning

The engine must be switched off (not placed in neutral) before any operations are carried out in the engine compartment.

You must switch off the ignition, Starting, stopping the engine.

warning

The engine may be hot when working in close proximity. Also, the engine cooling fan could turn on at any moment. The symbol 2_ALL_290_1_pictogramme.png in the engine compartment reminds you of this.

Risk of injury.

Label A is located on battery 1 under protective cover B.

Label A

Observe the indications on the battery:

  • 2 no open flames or smoking;
  • 3 mandatory eye protection;
  • 4 please keep away from children;
  • 5 explosive materials;
  • 6 refer to the manual;
  • 7 Corrosive substances.
warning

For your own safety, and for correct functioning of the electrical equipment (lights, windscreen wipers, ABS, etc.), any work on the battery (removal, disconnection, etc.) must be carried out by a specialist.

Risk of burns or serious electrical shocks.

Follow the replacement intervals set out in the maintenance manual (do not exceed them).

The battery is a specific type. Make sure you replace it with one of the same type.

Please contact an authorised dealer.

important

Depending on the vehicle, in the event of problems with your vehicle's 12 V battery (disconnecting the battery, replacing it, etc.) the "Check Anti- Pollution System" message and the 2_ALL_064_1_pictogramme.png and 1_ALL_036_1_pictogramme.png warning lights may be displayed on the instrument panel.

This is a normal operation to indicate that the system needs to redefine the engine injection configurations.

The resetting procedure can take up to approximately three days. It has no effect on the behaviour of your vehicle.

Do not change your driving habits or carry out work on your vehicle. When the resetting is complete, the message and warning lights will disappear from the instrument panel.

If the message and warning lights remain on the instrument panel, contact an approved dealer.
