Driving advice

Actual fuel economy varies depending on your vehicle's driving conditions, equipment, and driving style. To optimize your fuel economy, keep in mind the following.

Depending on your vehicle's specifications, the following features can improve fuel economy and help you drive more environmentally friendly.

Depending on your vehicle's specifications, the multimedia system displays this information.

■ Driving advice, Eco-driving

  • Drive carefully until the engine reaches its normal operating temperature, rather than let it warm up while the vehicle is stationary.
  • Driving at high speed has a strong impact on the vehicle's fuel consumption.
  • Dynamic driving involving heavy and frequent acceleration and braking is expensive on fuel in comparison to the time saved.
  • Avoid carrying unnecessary loads to conserve fuel.
  • Brake as little as possible. If you anticipate an obstacle or bend in advance, you may then simply release the accelerator pedal.
  • Do not over rev the engine in the intermediate gears. You should always use the highest gear possible.
  • To avoid overloading the engine, always drive with the gear lever in the optimal gear position.
  • On vehicles with a DCT transmission, it is recommended to keep the gear lever in the D position. Additionally, do not leave the gear lever in the N position when going down a hill, as it can be difficult to react to sudden hazards

  • Do not try to maintain the same speed up a hill, accelerate no more than you would on level ground. Keep your foot in the same position on the accelerator pedal.
  • Shifting the gear lever into P or N and pressing the accelerator pedal to high RPM before turning off the ignition is unnecessary for your vehicle.
  • Bad weather, flooded roads:

Do not drive through water if it is higher than the lower edge of the wheel rim.

If the brake system gets wet, braking power may decrease, increasing the risk of an accident, so do not drive through water. After crossing a river or a puddle, the braking performance may be impaired.

In such cases, be mindful of the surrounding traffic and drive at a low speed while gently pressing the brake pedal several times until the braking performance returns to normal.

warning

Driver obstruction

On the driver's side, only use mats suitable for the vehicle, attached with the pre-fitted components, and check the fitting regularly. Do not lay one mat on top of another.

The pedals may become obstructed, or they could get wedged in the mat, potentially leading to serious accidents.

■ Advice for reducing consumption and helping to preserve the environment

  • Favour ECO Mode.
  • Electricity is fuel. switch off all the electrical components when they are not genuinely needed. However (safety first), keep your lights on when the visibility is bad ("see and be seen").
  • Use the air vents. Driving with the windows open at 62 mph (100 km/h) will increase fuel consumption by 4%.
  • Never fill the fuel tank right to the brim to avoid overflow.
  • When using air conditioning, it is normal for fuel consumption to increase (especially in cities). Switch off the air conditioning when it is not required.
  • Set to outside air intake and drive with the windows closed.
  • If the vehicle has been parked in the sun, open the doors for a few moments to let the hot air escape before starting the engine.
  • Do not leave an empty roof rack fitted to the vehicle.
  • Avoid using the vehicle for "door-to-door" calls (short journeys with long waits in between) because in such conditions the engine never reaches its optimal operating temperature.
  • When driving, familiarize yourself with the route to your destination in advance or use the navigation system to drive efficiently.

■ Tyres

  • An underinflated tyre increases fuel consumption.
  • To optimise fuel consumption, set the highest speed tyre pressure or the recommended pressure indicated on the edge of the driver's door. Tyre pressure
  • The use of non-recommended tyres can increase fuel consumption.
