Renault Koleos
■ Operating principle
Ultrasonic sensors, indicated by arrows 1, are fitted in the bumpers to detect obstacles near the vehicle.
The function alerts the driver via audible signals and a display representing the area where the obstacle was detected.
Depending on the equipment, the system detects obstacles behind, in front and to the sides of the vehicle. The Park Assist system is only activated when the vehicle is driven at a speed below approximately 15 km/h.
■ Location of the ultrasonic sensors 1
The ultrasonic detection zones should be kept clean and free of any modifications in order to ensure the proper operation of the system.
Ensure that the area around the ultrasonic sensors indicated by the arrows 1 is not obscured (by dirt, mud, snow, a badly fitted/attached number plate), impacted, modified (including paintwork) or obstructed by any accessory fitted to the rear and, depending on the vehicle, to the front or sides of your vehicle.
The sensor area can be affected by environmental conditions such as dirt accumulation or rain, which may impact the system's performance. In case of malfunction, a related message may appear on the dashboard.
▶ Front parking ultrasonic sensors
The parking assist system ultrasonic sensors in the front bumper can detect obstacles up to 1 m away from the front of your vehicle.
▶ Side parking ultrasonic sensors
The parking assist system ultrasonic sensors on the sides can detect obstacles up to 30 cm to the side of the sensor when the vehicle is moving in or out of traffic.
▶ Rear parking ultrasonic sensors
The park assist ultrasonic sensors in the rear bumper can detect obstacles up to 1.5 m behind the vehicle.
The parking assist system cannot replace the driver's vision.
- The park assist system cannot detect objects on the bumper or under the vehicle, or objects that are too close or too far away from the vehicle.
- The park assist system may not detect children, pedestrians, cyclists, or pets.
- The park assist system cannot detect small objects.
- Failure to pay attention to your vehicle's surroundings while parking can result in serious personal and property damage. Even if the vehicle is equipped with a parking assist system, the driver must still carefully observe for obstacles before parking.
■ Activating/deactivating the system from the multimedia screen
The park assist system is automatically activated when you start your vehicle. To turn
the system off, select [My Apps]
- [Driver
Assist] - [Park Assist] from the menu on the left side of the center screen, then
disable [Parking Distance Alert].
That only the forward alert can be deactivated, and that the forward alert is automatically activated when you engage [Around View] and [FULL Autoparking Assist].
Alternatively, touch the left side of the clock at the top of the center screen, then swipe down from the top to select the [Control Center] screen, then tap [Park Assist] to adjust the settings. Multimedia equipment
warning
For safety reasons, carry out any adjustments while the vehicle is stationary.
■ Setting the alarm volume
From the menu on the left side of the center screen, select [My apps]
-[Driver Assist]-[Park Assist],
and then select the sound volume from low, medium, or high.
Note: For models equipped with BOSE™ audio, the alarm sound for very close approach (red block) may be louder than the alarm sound for basic approach (yellow block), which is normal operation.
■ Operation
The display shows the vehicle's surroundings. If all areas have a grey background, the whole area around the vehicle is being monitored.
When an obstacle enters the detection range, the display highlights it with a colored block and emits beeps.
▶Obstacle detection
When the solid beep sounds, it indicates that there is an obstacle in front, to the sides, and near the rear of the vehicle.
The area where the obstacle has been detected is displayed in green, orange, yellow or red, based on the proximity of the detected obstacle. The beeps become faster and then sound continuously as the obstacle gets nearer. If the distance is less than 30 cm, the warning sound will continue to sound.
Note: environmental factors can reduce the detection performance of the parking assist system's ultrasonic sensors in hot, very cold, or humid weather.
warning
In the event of a change in trajectory during a manoeuvre, the risk of collision with an obstacle may be signalled late.
■ If the system does not operate normally
Be aware that the parking assist system's ultrasonic sensors may not sound an alarm or may sound a false alarm under the following conditions.
▶ If an obstacle cannot be detected
- The parking assist system's ultrasonic sensors cannot detect net-like obstacles, such as barbed wire, ropes, and barriers.
- The ultrasonic sensors in your parking assist system cannot detect low-profile obstacles, such as stones, blocks of wood, etc.
- The parking assist system's ultrasonic sensors cannot detect vehicles with high garages.
- The parking assist system's ultrasonic sensors cannot detect soft objects such as snow, cotton balls, or sponges that can absorb ultrasonic waves.
- The ultrasonic sensors in your parking assist system cannot detect some specially shaped obstacles, such as poles, small trees, bicycles, scaffolding, and cardboard.
- Small objects with a diameter of approximately 7.5 cm or less or a length of approximately 100 cm or less cannot be detected.
▶ Situations that can cause false alarms
- The parking assist system may give a false alarm if there is ice on the surface of the parking assist system's ultrasonic sensors.
- The parking assist system may give a false alarm when your vehicle is on a steep hill.
- The rear ultrasonic system may give a false alarm if your vehicle is equipped with or near a high-frequency radio or antenna.
- Other vehicles' horns, engine roars, or your vehicle's exhaust note can give a false alarm if they are too close to the Park Assist system's ultrasonic sensors.
- The parking assist system may give a false alarm when the vehicle is moving in snow or rain. If the system still does not sound an alarm when your vehicle approaches an obstacle and you are certain that the above conditions are not the cause, contact an authorized service center.
- Ultrasonic sensors can give false alarms on uneven, gravel, or grassy roads.
The parking assist system's ultrasonic sensors can only detect the closest obstacle when there are multiple obstacles. As you move your vehicle, pay attention to whether the park assist system's ultrasonic sensors on the other side detect other obstacles.
Do not use a water gun that directly sprays high-pressure water to clean the surface of the parking assist system's ultrasonic sensors, and do not compress or impact the surface of the parking assist system's ultrasonic sensors in any other way, otherwise it may cause a malfunction.
■ Parking emergency brake
When in reverse gear and moving at between approximately 2 mph and 6 mph (3 km/h and 10 km/h), if there is a risk of collision with a fixed obstacle, the system automatically brakes the vehicle.
After braking, the
indicator
light on the instrument panel illuminates.
When the Park Brake Assist feature is engaged, the electronic parking brake is automatically applied.
▶Activating or deactivating the system
You can activate and deactivate the function by selecting [My Apps]
-[Driver Assistance]-[Parking
Assist] from the menu on the left side of the center screen, then selecting [Parking
Brake Assist].

This function is an additional driving aid. This function cannot, under any circumstances, replace the vigilance and responsibility of the driver.
Some climatic and environmental conditions can disrupt or damage the system. As a consequence, the driver should always be ready for sudden incidents while driving: always ensure that there are no small, narrow moving obstacles (such as a child, animal, pushchair, bicycle, stone, post, etc.) in the blind spot when manoeuvring.
The triggering of this function may be delayed or prevented when the system detects clear signs of control of the vehicle by the driver (action on the steering wheel, pedals, etc.).
System servicing/repairs
- In the event of an impact, the rear sensors and their performances may be affected. Deactivate the function and consult an authorised dealer.
- Any work in the area where the sensors are located (repairs, replacements, bumper modifications, etc.) must be carried out by a qualified professional.
Only an authorised dealer is qualified to service the system.
Deactivating the function
You must deactivate the function if the vehicle is being towed (breakdown recovery) or if the vehicle is fitted with a towbar that is not recognised by the system.
In the event of the system behaving abnormally, deactivate it and consult an authorised dealer.
warning
This system is an assistive system for parking and is not warranted for accidents or damage to the vehicle caused by its failure, nor is it warranted for accidents or damage caused by operating the system in a manner inconsistent with the guidelines in this manual.
warning
This feature is an additional aid when parking that indicates the distance between the vehicle and an obstacle via an audible signal.
In any case, the driver's attention and responsibility are very important.
The driver must always check for obstacles in the front and rear, even in vehicles equipped with a parking assist system, and should remain vigilant to respond to sudden situations while driving. The driver should always ensure that there are no small, narrow moving obstacles (such as a child, animal, pushchair, bicycle, stone, post, etc.) in the blind spot when manoeuvring.
The sensor cannot detect low or thin obstacles, such as the center section between the sensor and the object, so always check for yourself.
Obstacles often cannot be detected because the sensors have a limited range and objects they can detect.
The parking assist system may not function due to the surrounding environment or other conditions, so relying on it alone may result in an accident.
warning
An impact to the underside of the vehicle while manoeuvring (e.g. striking a post, raised kerb or other street furniture) may result in damage to the vehicle (e.g. deformation of an axle).
To avoid any risk of accident, have your vehicle checked by an approved dealer.
