Adjusting the steering wheel

The height of the steering wheel and, depending on the vehicle, the depth can be adjusted.

Pull the lever 1 downwards and position the steering wheel as desired, then lift the handle again to lock the steering wheel in place.

Make sure that the steering wheel is correctly locked.

warning

For safety reasons, carry out adjustments while the vehicle is stationary.

Power Assisted Steering

Never drive with an inadequately charged battery.

Special case

Depending on the vehicle, in the event of a battery failure (battery disconnected, battery discharged, etc.), a power steering reset must be carried out. To do this:

  • with the vehicle stationary and on level ground;
  • with only the driver in the vehicle, start the engine: the 2_ALL_359_1_pictogramme.png warning light and/or, depending on the vehicle, the "Check steering" message is shown on the instrument panel;
  • turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and then to the right.

The next time the engine is started, the warning light and/or the message, depending on the vehicle, will disappear.

Special feature of Stop and Start

When the engine is on standby, the power-assisted steering no longer works.

In this case, it returns to its original state after the engine is started again or as soon as the vehicle speed exceeds 1 mph (1 km/h) (uphill or downhill slope, etc.).

Nota: power-assisted steering depends on the selected "Drive mode " mode Drive mode.

tip

Never leave the steering wheel on full lock when the vehicle is stationary.

tip

With the ignition switched off, or if there is a system fault, it is still possible to turn the steering wheel. The force required will be greater.

warning

Never switch off the ignition when travelling downhill, and avoid doing so in normal driving (power steering and brake servo will not function).
