Renault Kardian Latam

System A

Operating principle

Ultrasonic sensors, indicated by arrows 1, are installed on the rear bumper to measure the distance between the vehicle and an obstacle when the vehicle is moving in reverse.

This measurement is indicated by beeps which become more frequent the closer you come to the obstacle, until they become a continuous beep when the vehicle is approximately 30 centimetres from the obstacle. Stop as soon as possible, according to traffic conditions.

There is a beep when changing to reverse gear.

If the beep sounds for a long time (about three seconds), this indicates an operating fault.

The function does not take into account towing or transport systems that are not recognised by the system.

warning

This function is an additional driving aid.

Nevertheless, under no circumstances can it replace the driver’s care or responsibility when reversing.

The driver should always be prepared for sudden accidents while driving: when manoeuvring always check that there are no mobile, small or narrow obstacles (such as children, animals, prams, bicycles, stones, posts etc.) in your blind spot.

Location of ultrasonic sensors 1

Ensure that the ultrasonic sensors indicated by the arrows 1 are not obscured (by dirt, mud, snow, a poorly fitted/adjusted number plate), impacted, modified (including paintwork) or obstructed by any accessory installed at the rear, or, depending on the vehicle, at the front or side of your vehicle.

Deactivating the system

In the "VEHICLE" world on the multimedia screen2, press the "Park Assist" menu.

Activate or deactivate the areas covered by the ultrasonic detectors.

See the multimedia instructions for more information.

Manual deactivation of the parking sensors

If towing, transportation or trailer equipment is present in front of the ultrasonic detectors, the system must be deactivated.

Operating Faults

When the system detects an operational fault, a beep sounds for about three seconds as a warning. consult an approved dealer.

Interference

Interference from factors in the immediate vicinity (external objects or the use of devices operating with ultrasonic detectors) can disrupt the operation of the system.

warning

Any impact to the underside of the vehicle (e.g. striking a post, a raised kerb or any object on the ground) when manoeuvring may result in damage to the vehicle (e.g. a bent axle).

To prevent any risk of accident, have your vehicle checked by an approved dealer.

System B

Operating principle

Ultrasonic sensors, indicated by arrows 3, are installed on the bumpers to measure the distance between the vehicle and an obstacle.

Depending on the vehicle, the system detects obstacles in front of and behind the vehicle.

The Park Assist system only remains active while the vehicle is moving at a speed below approximately 6 mph (10 km/h).

The Park Assist system does not detect tow bars, luggage racks, etc.

This measurement is indicated by beeps that become more frequent the closer you get to the obstacle, then a continuous beep sounds when the vehicle is approximately 20-30 centimetres from the obstacle.

Location of ultrasonic sensors 3

Ensure that the ultrasonic sensors indicated by the arrows 3 are not obscured (by dirt, mud, snow, a poorly fitted/adjusted number plate), impacted, modified (including paintwork) or obstructed by any accessory installed at the rear, or, depending on the vehicle, at the front or side of your vehicle.

Note: the display 4 shows the area around the vehicle and emits beeps.

warning

An impact to the underside of the vehicle while manoeuvring (e.g.: striking a post, raised kerb or other street furniture) may result in damage to the vehicle (e.g.: deformation of an axle).

To prevent any risk of accident, have your vehicle checked by an approved dealer.

Operation

The system detects most objects located in front and behind the vehicle.

Depending on the distance from the obstacle, the frequency of the beep increases as it approaches and becomes a continuous beep at about 30 centimetres from an obstacle behind the vehicle or in front of it, depending on the vehicle. The green, orange (or yellow, depending on the vehicle) and red zones are shown on the display 5.

Note: in the event of a change of trajectory during a manoeuvre, the risk of collision with obstacles may be signalled with a delay.

Activation/deactivation

In the "VEHICLE" world on the multimedia screen2, press the "Park Assist" menu.

Activate or deactivate the areas covered by the ultrasonic detectors.

See the multimedia instructions for more information.

Adjustment

Depending on the vehicle, with the engine running, some settings can be adjusted on the multimedia screen 2. See the multimedia instructions for more information.

Parking aid audio volume

Adjust the Parking aid volume by pressing + or -.

System sound

Enables selection of the system sound.

Deactivating the system sound

Activates or deactivates the Parking aid sound.

Note: if you deactivate the sound, you will no longer be notified by beeps when approaching on obstacle.

tip

When the vehicle is traveling at a speed below approximately 6 mph (10 km/h), some noise sources (motorcycle, lorry, pneumatic drill, etc.) may activate the Parking aid system sound signals.

warning

An impact to the underside of the vehicle while manoeuvring (e.g.: striking a post, raised kerb or other street furniture) may result in damage to the vehicle (e.g.: deformation of an axle).

To prevent any risk of accident, have your vehicle checked by an approved dealer.

Manual deactivation of the parking sensors

You should deactivate the function if:

  • towing or transport equipment not recognised by the system is present in front of the ultrasonic detectors;
  • in the event of damage to the ultrasonic sensors.

Automatic deactivation of the parking sensors

The system will be deactivated:

  • when the vehicle speed is above approximately 6 mph (10 km/h);
  • depending on the vehicle, when the vehicle is stationary for more than about five seconds and an obstacle is detected (e.g. in a traffic jam, etc.);
  • when the vehicle is in neutral (manual gearbox) or in N or P position (automatic gearbox).
  • when an operational fault is detected.

Note: if the vehicle is equipped with a trailer recognised by the system, only the rear parking aid will be deactivated.

Operating Faults

When the system detects an operational fault, a beep sounds for about three seconds whenever the reverse gear is selected and it is accompanied by the "Check Park Assist" message on the instrument panel. Consult an Approved Dealer.

Interference

Interference from factors in the immediate vicinity (external objects or the use of devices operating with ultrasonic detectors) can disrupt the operation of the system.

tip

System repairs/maintenance

  • If the car is involved in a collision, the sensors may be misaligned and this could affect their operation. Deactivate the function and consult an approved dealer.
  • Any work to sensors, such as repairs, replacement, etc., should be carried out by a qualified professional.

Only an approved dealer is fully certified to carry out system maintenance.

System malfunctions

The system may be affected or damaged by some conditions, such as:

  • adverse weather conditions (heavy rain, snow, hail, black ice, etc.);
  • in case of exposure to strong electromagnetic waves (under high-voltage lines, etc.);
  • some types of noise (motorcycle, lorry, pneumatic drill, etc.);
  • installation of a non-compatible tow ball or hitch;
  • ...

Risk of false alarms or the absence of such warnings

Speak to your approved dealer if you notice any abnormal behaviour.

tip

System operating limits

  • To ensure that the system operates effectively, the area around the sensors must be kept clean and not modified in any way.
  • Small objects moving close to the vehicle such as motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians, etc., may not be recognised by the system.
  • The system may not detect objects that are too close to the vehicle.
  • The system may not provide a warning when other vehicles or objects are moving at a significantly different speed.
  • When there is a change in trajectory during a manoeuvre, the system may be slow to report the obstacles.
  • When the vehicle is towing a trailer, the rear parking aid system must be deactivated.

Disabling the feature

You should deactivate the function if:

  • the area around the sensors has been damaged;
  • the vehicle is equipped with a towing device not recognised by the system (electrical adapter, ball, hitch, etc.).
