Assisted operation
Applying the Electronic Parking Brake
When the vehicle is stationary, the electronic parking brake can be used to bring the vehicle to a standstill:
- pressing the engine start/stop button 1;
or
- when the driver's seat belt is not fastened;
or
- when the driver's door is opened;
or
- For vehicles equipped with an automatic gearbox, when the position P is selected.
In all other instances, for example , if the engine stops, the electronic parking brake is not applied automatically. Manual mode must be used.
On some country-specific model versions, the electronic brake application function is not activated.
Refer to the information under "Manual operation".
To confirm that the electronic parking brake has been applied, the message ""Handbrake applied" is displayed, the indicator light
lights up on the instrument panel, and the indicator 2 lights up on the switch 3.
After the engine is turned off, the indicator light 2 goes out several minutes after the electronic parking brake is applied, and the indicator light
goes out when the vehicle is locked.
warning
Before exiting the vehicle, check that the electronic parking brake is fully applied. The switch 2 indicator light 3 and the instrument panel indicator
of the instrument panel light up to show that the electronic parking brake has been applied, but go out when the doors are locked.
Note: In certain circumstances (electronic parking brake failure, manual parking brake release, etc.), a beep is emitted and the message ""WARNING: Apply Parking Brakeis displayed on the instrument panel to signal to you that the electronic parking brake has been released.

- With the engine off (e.g. when the engine switches off): when a front door is opened.
In this case, pull and release switch 3 to apply the electronic parking brake.
Automatic parking brake release
The brake will be released on vehicles equipped with an automatic gearbox when the ignition is switched on and P position is shifted to R, N or D.
Manual operation
You can apply the electronic parking brake manually.

Brief stop
To apply the electronic parking brake manually (when stopping at a red light or stopping while the engine is running, etc.): pull and release switch 3. The brake will be released as soon as the vehicle is restarted.
Special cases
To park downhill or while towing a trailer, for example, pull switch 3 for a few seconds to achieve maximum braking.

- Releasing the electronic parking brake manually;
- with P position selected, release the brake pedal and the switch 3.
Special feature of the automatic gearbox
For safety reasons, the automatic release is deactivated when the driver's door is opened or is not properly closed and the engine is running (to prevent the vehicle from moving without the driver present). The "Release Parking Brake" message appears on the instrument panel when the driver presses the acceleration pedal.
warning
Never exit the vehicle without placing the lever on position P and turning off the engine. This is because when the vehicle is stationary with the engine running and the gears engaged, the vehicle may start moving if you accelerate.
Risk of accident.
warning
If the "Electric System Failure" message appears, manually activate the electronic parking brake by pulling the switch 3 or shifting the gear lever to P before switching off the engine.
Risk of loss of immobilisation of the vehicle.
Please contact an authorised dealer.

light.
This means that you need to stop as soon as traffic conditions allow.
warning
If no lights or sounds are apparent, this indicates a fault in the instrument panel. Stop immediately if traffic conditions allow.
Ensure that the vehicle is correctly immobilised and consult an approved dealer.
warning
To do this, it is essential to immobilise the vehicle by selecting P position. Depending on the slope, place chocks on the vehicle.
